It's December 6 and Christmas is only 19 days away. You're working hard, picking up some extra hours to get those bills paid, food on the table, and maybe have just enough left over that you can get something on your kids' list of wants. As you tuck the last child in, you're thinking about what tomorrow will bring, getting everyone back up to go for the day, and what your work day may bring. It's finally time to collapse in bed and rest for just a few hours with your spouse. As you drift off to sleep you think about the near future with a feeling of hope.
Suddenly around 3 am in the early morning hours of freezing cold darkness you are awakened to a home filled with smoke and fire. You rush to get the children and yourself out safely. There's no time to worry about things, even medical equipment for your child, as you jump out the window to safety and standby as EVERYTHING you own burns to ashes. If that were the end of this tragedy, it would be enough to break most people. Adding insult to injury, a person who volunteered to head up a GoFundMe campaign has failed to deliver all of the money that was raised. The Lay family is working with law enforcement and GoFundMe to resolve the matter, but this can take a year or more while they are effectively homeless.
They were in a hotel, now in an Air BnB, and hope to be in a short term or 1 year rental soon. They intend to build a new home on the same 40 acres where their previous home burned down. Looking to make the most of a bad situation, they hope to be able to build a new home that can better accommodate their unique family as they have 5 children, 2 of whom have special needs. One is a high functioning autistic and another is non-verbal autistic with a very rare mutation called PTCHD1.
We ask that you do 3 things. First, please pray for them. Second, please share this story so that others will be aware and consider helping. Third, make a donation to help them rebuild from the ashes. Thank you for your consideration!
