SUPPORTING UNHOUSED INDIVIDUALS

Can you begin to imagine what life would look like for you or your family if you were suddenly without a home?  Maybe you made some bad decisions or maybe it was no fault of your own, but one day there's not enough money to pay the rent or mortgage.  Maybe you survive in hotels for a while, but that can get expensive quickly.  Maybe you then stay in your car, but that is also costly with limited SAFE places to rest.  Now you can't afford a car, gas, home, hotel or anything that used to resemble a "normal" life.

You're now living in a tent, just out of sight of society so as not to draw any negative attention.  This keeps you relatively safe for the most part, but maybe there are a few others in similar situations and your little "home" has become a small colony or camp.  You get to know the others a little, but can you really trust them?  After all, EVERYTHING you own and need to survive is within the confines of your personal dwelling and you'll need to leave it unattended in order to panhandle at the stoplight for today's meal.  At this point, the idea of getting back on your feet, in a home, with a normal lifestyle has vanished.  You're not living, you're merely surviving, and for what?  All hope has dwindled and you're just trying to make it to tomorrow.

But then a dim light appears in the darkness.  A stranger with a kind smile extends a helping hand.  Maybe it's a couple of dollars, a meal, or some much needed socks or hygiene products. The light at the end of the tunnel seems a lot less like an oncoming train and more like the ray of hope.  Every day is a little brighter because you know someone sees you.  Someone, somewhere is willing to give a hand or a dollar to help you on your journey back to anything resembling the life you once knew.
